Rules

In order to participate in experiments at the Curtin Experimental Economics Laboratory, you must register in our database using the lab's online recruitment system. Part of this registration process involves acknowledging the following basic rules of conduct:

  • You can only register once in the database. Registering multiple accounts undermines scientific research. Any participant found with more than one profile will be excluded from all future studies.
  • For each experiment, a certain number of registered participants will get an invitation email. The exact number is determined by the researcher conducting that experiment. Only the invited persons may take part in that experiment.
  • If you receive an invitation email, you must respond affirmatively in order to participate. Spaces in an experiment are limited, so it is important to respond early to better ensure that a space will still be available.
  • Participation in our experiments is normally rewarded in cash immediately after the experiment. The amount you earn will depend on your decisions during the experiment and, often, the decisions made by other participants during the session.
  • Signing up for an experiment commits you to attend the experiment, to arrive ON TIME for the experiment, and to be available the entire duration of the experiment (i.e., you cannot arrive late or leave early).
  • Important Note: After the scheduled start time, anyone who responded affirmatively to an invitation but does not show up will not receive any compensation for that experiment. In addition, he/she will be charged with a "no-show penalty". After a person has received 3 no-show penalties, he/she will be permanently removed from the database, and will be ineligible for any further Curtin Experimental Economics Laboratory experiments.
  • If you realise, after you have signed up, that you are unable to make it, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can find a replacement. If not enough participants show up for the experiment, the experiment may be cancelled. This is why it is very important to attend your scheduled session.
  • During an experiment, we ask you to follow the rules described to you by the experimenter. If you are disruptive, the experimenter reserves the right to ask you to leave immediately. In this case, you will not be paid.
  • You cannot sign yourself up for an experiment - you must be invited by us to participate and then you can choose one of the several sessions on different dates and times.
  • A confirmation email will be sent to the email address your provide. In order to receive invitations to participate, you will need to confirm your registration by clicking the link provided.
  • And don't forget to tell others about us! We are always looking for more people to register and participate in the experiments we run here in the Curtin Experimental Economics Laboratory.
